Artist's Statement
I moved to Mazatlan 3 years ago from California.
I live here full time, although I do fly to Oregon to visit
family for about 3 weeks each year. I worked over 30 years
with emotionally disturbed children and their families in
various settings. It was a difficult career, but sometimes
also a very rewarding one. The highlight of my career was
being able to supervise a Partial Hospitalization Program
in San Diego.. I was able to provide a nurturing environment
and give control to the group of children slowly as they
learned new skills. It was great getting away of the punitive
environments these children are often provided with. I am
immensely grateful to live in such a positive environment
and have great friends to experience life with.
I’ve been involved in various creative endeavors
over the years, these being weaving, batik, metal sculpture,
stained glass and copper enameling. I stumbled onto my newest
endeavor by accident and have been having great fun since.
I start by cutting pieces of stained glass (sometimes use
sea glass found on the beach) and layering them together.
The pieces are then fired in my small kiln and need to cool
for 12 hours before removing from the kiln. After cooling
I wire wrap these with copper, sterling silver or gold filled
wire. Often beads or various charms are added for an accent.
Each piece is unique and never duplicated. This provides
elegant affordable jewelry for the discriminating woman.
